Ideal candidate

Tummy tuck surgery is suitable for both men and women who are in good general health, is close to their ideal body weight (within 30%) and whose weight has been stable for 6 months or more.

The procedure should not be confused with liposuction (the cosmetic surgery used to remove fat deposits), although your ART MEDIC surgeon may recommend performing liposuction as part of your abdominoplasty surgery if necessary.

If you have muscles and skin stretched by multiple pregnancies, you will find the procedure useful to tighten those muscles and reduce excess fat and skin.

A tummy tuck is also an option for men or women who were obese at one point in their lives and still have excessive fat deposits or loose skin in the abdominal area.

We don't recommend the surgery if you intend to lose a lot of weight or you are planning future pregnancies, as vertical muscles in the abdomen that are tightened during surgery can separate again during pregnancy. If you have scarring from previous abdominal surgery, your ART MEDIC surgeon may recommend against abdominoplasty or may warn you that scars could be unusually prominent.
