Risks and complications
At ART MEDIC Cosmetic surgery, we perform many abdominoplasty surgeries successfully each year and our qualified and experienced specialists do their best to minimise the possibility of any complications during surgery. Nevertheless, there are always risks associated with surgery and specific complications associated with this procedure.
Post-operative complications such as infection and blood clots are rare, but can occur. Infection can be treated with drainage and antibiotics, but will make your hospital stay longer. You can minimize the risk of blood clots by moving around as soon after the surgery as possible. One of the more common problems after an abdominoplasty is collection of fluid under the skin after the drains have been removed. In this case, your ART MEDIC surgeon will aspirate the fluid with a needle. The drainage stops within a month and will not affect the final results.
Poor scar healing, which results in conspicuous scars, may require a second operation. If you are a smoker, you are advised to stop, as smoking may increase the risk of complications and delay healing.
You can reduce your risk of complications by closely following your ART MEDIC surgeon's instructions before and after the surgery, especially with regard to when and how you should return physical activity.
